How Gentle Energy Shifts Can Lead to Lasting Healing and Inner Peace
I’ve battled the dark depths of manic depression and suicidal thoughts, lost in what felt like an endless maze. But everything changed when I finally found the path through—here is what I’ve learned and embraced on my journey toward healing and light.

One of the most precious lessons I’ve gathered is the power of gentleness. In a world that demands quick fixes and instant results, it’s easy to get caught up in the rush to mend things swiftly, especially when burdened by the weight of manic depression. Yet, true healing doesn’t happen overnight—it’s a journey that calls for patience and self-compassion.
The wisdom of Jeffrey Allen, an energy healer and teacher, profoundly resonates with me through his course on healing energy. His insights have illuminated my path, offering a deeper understanding of the intricate dance between energy and healing. As Jeffrey Allen explained,

For big changes, it should take time, and gentle is okay. Fast can be radical and disruptive.

Know who you are and the pace that you can handle. Any progress is progress. These words remind us that healing doesn’t need to be forced. It doesn’t have to be radical or extreme. For those of us grappling with mental health challenges like manic depression, a gentle approach can be far more sustainable and effective. Every small step matters. Every moment of self-awareness, every time you acknowledge your feelings without judgment, and every tiny shift in energy—these are all signs of progress.

Strategies for Healing and Energy Shifting
1. Start with Acceptance
One of the toughest things to do when overwhelmed by depression is to accept where you are. It’s natural to want to push the feelings away or numb them with distractions. But as I’ve learned, resisting only tightens the grip these emotions have over you. Instead, practice acceptance. Acknowledge how you’re feeling and give yourself permission to be in that state without rushing to change it. Acceptance doesn’t mean giving up—it means allowing yourself the space to heal.

2. Use Meditation and Visualization
Meditation is a powerful tool for shifting your energy. When I feel stuck in depressive thoughts or overwhelming emotions, I turn to meditation. It helps me center myself and access the feelings I want to cultivate, like joy or peace. In moments of quiet reflection, I visualize the things in my life that bring me happiness—my relationships, my home, my creative passions. Even spending a few minutes each day focusing on these positive aspects can shift my energy and mood.

3. Ground Yourself in the Present
Depression often pulls us out of the present moment, trapping us in past regrets or future anxieties. One technique I use to ground myself is simply stepping outside, connecting with nature, and being mindful of my surroundings. Walking barefoot on the grass, feeling the earth beneath me, and focusing on my breath helps bring me back to the present moment. It may seem simple, but it’s a profound way to reconnect with your body and center your energy.

4. Be Compassionate with Yourself
Healing is not linear, and it’s important to be kind to yourself on this journey. There will be days where you feel like you’re making progress, and others where it feels like you’re right back at square one. Jeffrey Allen reminds us that progress, no matter how small, is still progress. Let go of perfectionism and allow yourself to heal at your own pace. If today was challenging, ask yourself, “What have I learned about myself today?” and/or “What’s my takeaway, and how can I apply it in the near future?”

5. Know That You Are Not Alone
In the depths of depression, it can often feel isolating, as though you’re facing this battle on your own. But you are not alone. Many people, like Jeffrey Allen, understand the importance of patience and compassion in the healing process. Surround yourself with those who uplift and support your journey, and most importantly, trust in yourself. Healing may take time, but every small step brings you closer to the peace you deserve.

Creative Writing Prompt: “A Moment of Joy”
Take five minutes to reflect on something or someone that brings you joy—whether it’s a place, a person, an experience, or a small daily moment. Close your eyes, take a few deep breaths, and visualize yourself in that joyful moment.
Now, write about it. Describe how it makes you feel, the sights, sounds, and sensations of that experience. Focus on the energy it brings you. How does this joy shift your mood or mindset? Let the words flow without judgment, focusing on capturing the positive energy of that moment.

End your reflection by noting how you can bring more of that feeling into your daily life.
By incorporating gentleness and mindfulness into your healing process, you can begin to shift your internal energy and reconnect with the joy and peace that lie within. Remember, as Jeffrey Allen so wisely says, big changes take time, and that’s okay. Healing is a journey, not a race.
